REVOLT IN THE DETENTION CENTRE (CPR) OF MACOMER (SARDINIA) – 10 September 2023

Six months after the riots that closed the CPR in Turin, another column of smoke is rising in the sky of a state lager.

The inmates of the Sardinian CPR staged a strong protest against the conditions of detention.

Beatings, chants and flames broke the CPR’s routine of silence and abuse. The one in Macomer is located in a totally isolated place not far from the town, but immersed in the countryside and difficult to reach. There, temperatures sometimes exceed 40 degrees, making life impossible inside what was once a prison, now used as a repatriation centre.

Some comrades found themselves under the walls to show solidarity and, as well as seeing the column of smoke, they heard the tear gas shots of the celere, who had arrived to put down the riot in blood.
